Since August 2021, every month we have been exploring each of the twelve attributes that the Mother says are essential for full manifestation of Her Work. We have now come to Peace. Like the previous eleven issues, here also we explore the soul-quality of Peace in its various dimensions — inner and outer, individual and collective.
“A divine action or even a perfect human action is impossible if we have not equality of spirit and an equality in the motive-forces of our nature,” writes Sri Aurobindo.
The first obvious step to equality in the nature, according to Sri Aurobindo, will be the conquest of our emotional and vital being, for here are the sources of greatest trouble, the most rampant forces of inequality and subjection, the most insistent claim of our imperfection.
All this equalisation of the nature – in vital, mind and will – is a preparation for the highest spiritual equality to take possession of the whole being and make a pervading atmosphere in which the light, power and joy of the Divine can manifest itself in man amid an increasing fullness, writes Sri Aurobindo.
The deep influence of the Western intellectual frameworks of modernist and postmodernist kind have led the modern mind to look at both the words — Progress and Perfection — in somewhat narrow and limited manner and often in a superficial way. This has also led to a certain kind of mental prejudice and bias. These selections help us remove these intellectual cobwebs and gain a deeper dimension to these ideas of Progress and Perfection.
In India, since millennia, modesty or humility has been considered the one of the most noble virtues, one that is the ornament of all virtues. In present times when self-promotion is not only an acceptable practice but has actually become a highly sophisticated skill that one must master if one wants to be ‘successful’, humility often takes a backseat. But if we step back for a moment and reflect carefully we will find that it is exactly in times like these that we must sincerely begin to examine for ourselves what is true humility. And more importantly, how it is related to our inner journeys, our growth as conscious individuals with an aspiration to grow inwardly and walk the path that takes us closer to our highest Self within. This issue is dedicated to exploring Humility as one of the Twelve Powers which the Mother spoke of as necessary for the full manifestation of Her Work.
